The FMA (Full Metal Artillery) series of mecha is a coproduction between myself and my friend Danny West (Deviant KatanaRyu [link] ) from Modesto CA.
This design is a remodeled version of the idea, trying to break it away from its Guntoting Gundam influences and into a stand alone piece of machinery. The original idea had visual points that were clear signs of its influences: the firepower of the Gundam HeavyArms (Gundam Wing), the payload of the VF-1 Full Armor Valkyrie (Macross) and a few other bits I tacked on in a drunken stupor.
The revamped edtion has a few of my own artistic bits to it, such as the blocky, modular look of some of the weapon mounts and armor plating as well as a few aesthetic points such as the bull horns on the head.
Danny has put more effort into the machine than I have in recent times, and has designed layouts of the machine's cockpit. I will go and say though that he still needs the big red button with a skull and crossbones on its face, with the worlds "Payload" scribbled around it.
One of the other key design points is the heavy joint design and bolt marks, due to its size and purpose, the machine requires tremendous torque and loadbearing capacity. Much of this is acredited to influences from artists such as Don Figuroa.
At the time I drew this, I was still trying to find SRW to view, but came up empty. Danny does however have Overload planned with a revolver weapon, and I do think of Ol'Iron sides when it comes to that puppy!
Its not much, but in the original Dreamwave print of the War Within in TPB had some of Don's character designs as the chapter breaks between each chapter. I think the IDW edition has them at the end if they're still running the designs in the books.
I wish I knew, but I'm not too sure. Its worth checking out though. great book series if you can find both volumes (War within and volume 2 "Dark ages"). Its a shame volume 3 "Age of Wrath" won't be seeing completion any time soon.
The three people sitting behind me went 'Wow' and 'Amazing' when I pulled this up. And I completly agree!
